Liberty-i supports both wireless (WLAN) and wired (Ethernet) connectivity
to the Internet. In an actual venue you may find a mixture of both
connection environments. Liberty-i will seamlessly handle your movement
around the venue, irrespective of whether you are connected via
wireless or Ethernet.
Wireless (WLAN)
Accessing Liberty-i is very simple from your own client device:
laptop PC, MAC Notebook or personal digital assistant (PDA). As some
of our venues vary in their equipment being either wireless-only or
mixed wireless & Ethernet, the physical connection option requirements
will vary. In the instance of wireless-only venues, your client device
will need to have either embedded wireless (IEEE 802.11b) functionality
such as Intel® Centrino™ for PC or Airport™ for MAC. If you are
accessing Liberty-i via a PDA, you will need either embedded functionality
or a separate wireless adaptor (PCMCIA) and an extended battery jacket.

Wired (Ethernet)
Liberty-i will also support wired Ethernet connection. Most laptop
PCs and MAC Notebooks are equipped with integral RJ45 Ethernet female
connectors. You can connect via this type of port. In the case of
non integral port availability, you will need to have a Type 2 PCMCIA
slot Ethernet adaptor installed on your PC or MAC.

Liberty-i Connection Support
To make life even simpler with Liberty-i, we’ve thought of everything!
If you only have an Ethernet-equipped PC or MAC, but are in a wireless
equipped Liberty-i venue, subject to availability, you can rent
or loan a wireless to Ethernet converter. No set up, just plug the
converter into your existing Ethernet port and you’re ready to use
Liberty-i. We also have CD software and wireless cards in some locations
for you if you want to gain access to the wireless Liberty-i. The
CD is intuitive and will load all the necessary software to get
you connected. Remember, if you are using a PC with Microsoft®
Windows XP™, the system will automatically recognize the wireless
device you are plugging in, so long as your loaded XP has been updated
regularly (MS Windows XP update icon reminder on the Desktop).

Software Connection
Once you are connected to the Liberty-i venue where you are, then
you are ready for the high speed broadband Internet! Forget dial-up
speeds, your Internet experience just became very fast. Once your
client device has finished booting up, simply click on your web
browser application. Immediately you will be connected to the venue
Liberty-i portal page. Irrespective of what your default webpage
is, this portal page is the first page you will see*. Once on the
portal page, please follow the instructions, dependent on how you
wish to pay, to gain Internet access.
